Residents at Ashley House have been busy celebrating World Bee Day with a bright and imaginative craft session, creating their own bees and a cheerful poster for the home.
Using a variety of materials, fabrics and paints, residents worked together to design a colourful “Bee Happy” poster and make little bees out of card. The activity gave everyone the chance to explore different textures and techniques, with lots of hands-on creativity along the way. One photograph shows Herta adding yellow paint to the poster with a sponge, while another captures Barb carefully sticking flower petals into place.
The finished artwork is full of character and colour. Barb and Maggie are pictured proudly holding up the completed poster, and other images show the handmade bees ready for display, including Herta with a finished paper bee and flower, and Barb holding two card bees made with pipe cleaners. A lovely final display shows the bees hanging from a decorative tree, bringing a playful seasonal touch to the home.
Creative activities like this can be especially beneficial for residents’ wellbeing. Painting, sticking and working with different materials can support sensory stimulation, while taking part in a shared project can help build confidence, encourage attention and support cognitive function in an enjoyable and relaxed way.
At Ashley House, World Bee Day was marked with plenty of creativity, conversation and colour, leaving the home buzzing with residents’ artwork.
