Care group marks quarter century with new acquisition

South West Care Homes is marking its 25th anniversary by taking over a third property in its home town of Plymouth.

The company, founded in September 2001, now owns and operates a portfolio of 11 homes across Cornwall, Devon and Somerset.

It offers a range of care including residential, dementia, respite and palliative.

The latest acquisition, of 37-bed Manor Court care home in Efford, comes as the company launches a new growth strategy.

Managing Director Richard White said: “South West Care Homes was set up as a family business and has now been providing a range of care services throughout the region for a quarter of a century.

“There have been challenges along the way, not the least of which was Covid-19 which had serious and wide-ranging impacts across the whole sector.

“I was brought in to the company in 2022 to help keep the business on a sustainable footing and drive up quality as we came out of the pandemic. I’m pleased to be able to say we are now entering a new phase of careful, planned expansion in the region.

“The acquisition of Manor Court is the first step in this new phase and we’re very pleased to be able to welcome the residents and staff there into the South West Care Homes family.

“They are in very experienced hands.

“The wellbeing of all our residents is our top priority and we have a programme of continuous improvement in place which means we share experiences and best practice across all our homes.

“Staff from across the company work closely together and meet regularly to help the managers drive up the quality of care, which we are continuously focused on.

“They’re also a key part of our Green Agenda working group, which has brought in a range of initiatives to reduce our impact on the environment, something we all care deeply about.

“South West Care Homes is based not far from Manor Court at the Plymouth Science Park in Derriford and we also operate Manor House in Looseleigh Lane and Michaelstowe in Plympton, so we’re particularly pleased to have a third local home under our wing.

“I’m very grateful to the team from the previous owners at Anchor Hanover and to the staff at Manor Court for helping ensure a smooth transition.

“We’re looking forward to the next 25 years with confidence.”

Providing High-Quality Care Homes
Across the South West of England.

Why choose us?

All our homes are different, but they all have the core value of putting quality first.

“My wife has been living with you for just over a year now. At first, it took some getting used to the idea of her being away from me. But now things have settled down I am quite at ease with the situation and I feel part of the whole situation. I feel like it is one big family, whereas I am part of that family.”

We provide the highest quality of care,
ensuring a comfortable and supportive environment where individuality, dignity and quality of life
are paramount to all residents.

South West Care Homes has named The Cinnamon Trust as its Charity of the Year, recognising the vital role the organisation plays in supporting elderly people and their beloved pets at some of life’s most challenging moments. The announcement follows a successful 1,000-mile fundraising walk earlier this year, with proceeds shared between The Cinnamon Trust and Alzheimer’s support charities.
