Residents at Ashley House recently enjoyed something a little different, as Simon from Phelsuma Farm/Reptiles and Exotics visited the home with a wonderful selection of reptiles for everyone to see, touch and hold.

The unusual activity sparked plenty of interest among both residents and staff, with lots of smiles and curiosity throughout the visit. The animals included a tortoise, a bright green chameleon and several bearded dragons, giving residents the chance to experience something new in a calm and supported way.

The photographs capture some lovely moments from the session. Eileen was pictured gently stroking the foot of a tortoise, while Robin watched closely as Simon showed him the animal. Sally spent time looking at a tortoise held up for her, and later was also pictured holding a bearded dragon. Jean held a chameleon carefully in her hands, while Linda and Deirdre also enjoyed close-up contact with the reptiles. One image shows Ange, a carer, holding the bright green chameleon on her arm, adding to the fun and shared enjoyment of the visit.

Experiencing animals in this way can be especially beneficial for wellbeing, offering sensory stimulation, encouraging touch and creating opportunities for conversation and connection. It also gave residents the chance to try something different, which can build confidence and bring a real sense of engagement.

This thoughtful and interactive visit brought plenty of interest to Ashley House and was clearly enjoyed by everyone involved.
