Residents at Ashley House enjoyed a creative and sociable activity session when Izzy came in with a hands-on patchwork project for everyone to take part in together.
Izzy brought along a variety of fabrics, glue and picture templates, giving residents the chance to create their own colourful patchwork designs. Using vibrant materials and different textures, each person worked on bringing their chosen picture to life in their own way. The finished pieces included a lovely mix of designs, such as a house, elephant and gingerbread man, all full of colour and character.
The photographs from the session show residents fully involved in the activity. Barb, Maggie and Herta are pictured working together, while other images capture Jean concentrating on her house design, Herta creating a butterfly, Pauline working on a flower, Barb making a hare and Maggie adding detail to her gingerbread man. Eileen is also shown carefully placing squares onto her elephant picture, with Becky offering support as she helps with the gluing.
Activities like this are a lovely way to encourage social interaction, while also supporting cognitive engagement and fine motor skills. Just as importantly, they offer residents the chance to be creative, make choices and enjoy a shared sense of achievement.
At Ashley House, it was a relaxed and enjoyable session, with plenty of conversation, concentration and creativity around the table.
