As part of Dementia Action Week, residents at Kenwyn were delighted to welcome Claire from Crediton Childcare and the children she cares for for a special intergenerational visit.

The morning was filled with simple, shared activities that encouraged conversation, connection and plenty of smiles. A large tray of colourful sensory rice, along with kitchen pans and utensils, gave both residents and children the chance to explore and play together. Photographs from the visit show Claire and three children enjoying the sensory activity, while residents including Trish and Pam watched, chatted and joined in with interest.

There was also lots of fun with balloon games, which brought movement and laughter to the session. One lovely image shows Ange throwing a balloon to one of the children, while others capture residents and children playing together and enjoying each other’s company. Another particularly warm photograph shows Ange sitting with Miley on her lap, while Marj is pictured talking and playing with the children. The visit ended on a very affectionate note, with Trish sharing a goodbye cuddle.

Intergenerational activities can be especially meaningful, creating opportunities for companionship, stimulation and joyful interaction in a natural and relaxed way. For residents, these visits can spark memories, encourage communication and offer a lovely change of pace.

At Kenwyn, it was a cheerful and engaging morning that brought different generations together in the best possible way.
