There was plenty of excitement at Cambrian Lodge for Day 5 of the egg hatching experience, as residents gathered for a cheerful duck naming ceremony.
Everyone came together to find out which names had been pulled out of the hat, before raising a glass and toasting each of the newly named ducklings with a little bubbly. The chosen names were Daffy, Donald, Duck, Jaffa and Steve. One of the ducklings was named Daffy as a nod to Daffy Duck, who first appeared in a cartoon on this day in 1937.
The celebration continued with a selection of themed games, including Pin the Beak on the Duck, Hook a Duck and Chuck a Duck using plastic ducks, all while residents kept a close eye on the ducklings’ progress. The photographs show lots of smiling faces as residents enjoyed the activities, from clinking glasses together to concentrating during the hook-a-duck game and aiming carefully during chuck-a-duck. The videos also capture the fun, showing residents taking turns and encouraging one another.
Alongside the laughter and light-hearted competition, the ducklings themselves remained a lovely focus of the day, with close-up images showing them in their cage as everyone watched them grow.
Activities like these can support wellbeing in many ways, encouraging social interaction, concentration, coordination and shared enjoyment. At Cambrian Lodge, the duck naming ceremony was a lovely way to bring residents together and keep everyone involved in the unfolding hatching journey.
