There was plenty to enjoy at Cambrian Lodge on day 9 of the duckling adventure, as residents learned more about their fluffy visitors and spent more time watching, cuddling and cheering them on.
This time, residents discovered that the ducklings are Pekin Ducks and enjoyed learning more about the breed. Information sheets and a screen display helped bring the facts to life, while the ducklings themselves remained the stars of the show. The images capture them huddled together in their cage, gathering around their drinker and exploring a padded play area with a tray of water for splashing.
Residents also had more opportunities for close-up contact, including gentle cuddles with the ducklings on the now familiar pink fluffy pillow. One photograph shows a resident carefully holding a duckling, while another captures a resident making her way over with her walker to visit them, reflecting the interest and enjoyment they continue to bring.
The duck theme carried on throughout the day with duck songs and a reading of The Ugly Duckling, adding a familiar and comforting storytelling element to the activity. In the afternoon, things became more competitive with a duck race regatta, as residents placed their bets on which plastic duck would come out on top. The pictures show the racing game in action, with residents rolling the dice and watching closely as their chosen duck moved along the board.
It was another lovely day of learning, laughter and meaningful engagement, with the ducklings continuing to inspire conversation, curiosity and shared enjoyment across the home.
