Residents at Lavender Court enjoyed a calm and creative morning as they took part in a relaxed drawing session inspired by a simple but beautiful vase of flowers.
Using the floral display as their starting point, residents each created their own interpretation of what they saw. Some focused on careful detail and realism, while others took a more imaginative approach, giving the session a lovely sense of personality and fun. The photographs show the vase of flowers set out ready to inspire, along with residents’ work in progress and finished pieces.
Among the images, Ruth can be seen getting started with her pencil drawing before proudly revealing her completed artwork. Another series of photographs shows Wyn’s drawing developing, while one finished piece in coloured pencil captures the variety of styles that emerged during the session. From first sketches to final pictures, each piece reflected the individual creativity of the person behind it.
As well as being enjoyable, activities like this can support wellbeing in many ways. Drawing encourages concentration, self-expression and conversation, while the relaxed atmosphere gave residents the chance to spend time together and enjoy a quieter, thoughtful morning.
There was plenty of creativity, a few smiles over the more unusual floral interpretations, and a real sense of pride as residents admired their finished masterpieces. At Lavender Court, it was a lovely reminder that artistic talent can bloom at any time.
