Ashefield’s lounge became a departure lounge for the day as residents set off on a wonderful Armchair Travel adventure to China. With a little imagination (and some brilliant visuals), everyone enjoyed exploring the country’s rich culture and ancient history, all from the comfort of home.
The day’s “itinerary” included visits to some of China’s most iconic landmarks. Residents “walked” along the Great Wall of China, and took in the splendour of the Forbidden City and the Terracotta Army through immersive videos. It also prompted some lovely conversation, with several residents sharing memories and stories from their own travels and experiences.
Of course, no trip is complete without a few treats along the way. Residents enjoyed cracking open fortune cookies to reveal their “lucky” messages, alongside fun facts that sparked plenty of smiles, from pandas’ famously fussy bamboo-only diet to the symbolism of red as a colour of luck and happiness.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was dressing the part, with residents trying on traditional Chinese robes (Hanfu) and hats. The vibrant fabrics brought laughter, photographs, and a real sense of occasion, turning an ordinary day into something delightfully different.
It was a day full of discovery, reminiscing and shared enjoyment, with passports ready for the next adventure.
