Residents at Lake View enjoyed a tasty trip through history as they learned all about the traditional dish of Welsh rarebit, or as the residents amusingly described it, ‘posh cheese on toast!’
The group explored the origins of this much-loved dish, which has roots stretching back hundreds of years. Welsh rarebit is a delicious twist on ordinary cheese on toast, traditionally made with a rich, melted cheese mixture flavoured with ingredients such as Worcestershire sauce, mustard and spices.
The activity provided a lovely opportunity to learn something new while chatting about familiar foods, favourite recipes and traditional dishes that have stood the test of time.
Of course, learning about such a delicious dish is bound to work up an appetite! Residents were looking forward to sampling some Welsh rarebit at teatime and discovering what makes this classic comfort food so popular.
