Residents at The Firs have been helping to brighten the gardens as part of the home’s celebrations for the Chelsea Flower Show and to mark World Bee Day.
With trowels at the ready, Eileen, Jane, Horace and Maurice spent time refreshing a number of the home’s planters. Working their way through the weeds and replanting with care, they created beautiful displays that now add fresh colour to the grounds.
The photographs from the session show Horace busy planting up a large pot, while Eileen is pictured adding flowers to a grey trough. Another image captures Maurice and Horace hard at work on small white pots, carefully filling them with flowers. The finished results can be seen in further photographs, with rows of potted plants lined up on a windowsill and floor, and smaller white pots hanging neatly on a fence.
Gardening activities like this can be wonderfully rewarding. They offer gentle physical activity, encourage concentration and teamwork, and provide the simple pleasure of spending time outdoors with a clear shared purpose. Creating planters for the garden can also give residents a real sense of achievement, knowing their work will be enjoyed by everyone around the home.
At The Firs, this was a lovely way to continue the home’s floral celebrations while also supporting wildlife-friendly planting. The refreshed planters now bring extra colour and cheer to the garden spaces for residents, visitors and, of course, the bees.
