There was plenty of excitement at Cambrian Lodge on day 8 of the duckling journey, as the young ducklings were feeling stronger, more confident and very ready to explore.
Residents and staff were greeted by a lively welcome in the morning, and a paddling pool was set up in the lounge so everyone could observe the ducklings experiencing water for the first time. The images show the ducklings gathered around trays of water, paddling together, exploring their soft play area and investigating colourful plastic balls with plenty of curiosity.
Once they had dried off, residents and staff were able to enjoy some gentle cuddles. Several of the photographs capture these lovely moments, with residents and team members holding and stroking the ducklings as they rested on a soft pink pillow. These close-up interactions brought a great deal of warmth and interest to the day, giving everyone the chance to observe the ducklings up close and enjoy their growing confidence.
The duck theme continued into the afternoon with a reading of Jemima Puddle-Duck and a screening of the ballet from The Tales of Beatrix Potter. One image shows a resident looking at the book alongside a word search, while others show the ballet playing on screen.
Activities like this can encourage conversation, sensory engagement and shared enjoyment, while creating calm, meaningful moments for residents. At Cambrian Lodge, day 8 brought plenty of gentle fun and fascination as everyone followed the ducklings’ next stage of development.
