Residents at Ashley House have begun creating a thoughtful display of poppies for the home ahead of VE Day, using a range of creative techniques to mark the occasion.
One of the activities saw residents using their handprints to form bright red poppies, printing them onto paper to create a simple but meaningful collage. The finished artwork, titled Lest We Forget, already makes a striking tribute and reflects the care and involvement of everyone who took part.
The photographs show residents fully engaged in the process. Barb was pictured making her red handprint, while Maggie, Bill and Wendy each had their hands painted in preparation for printing. Herta was also photographed pressing her painted hand onto the paper, helping to build the collage one print at a time. Alongside the handprint artwork, some residents have also started making poppies from egg cartons, with more to come as the display continues to take shape.
Creative remembrance activities like this can encourage reflection, conversation and shared purpose, while also giving residents the chance to contribute to something visible and meaningful within the home. At Ashley House, the project has been a gentle and engaging way to prepare for VE Day, combining creativity with remembrance in a way that involves residents directly.
